A classic for a modest price: Herringbone parquet

The serrated groove and bar pattern of the herringbone parquet conjures up a decorative look on the wooden floor. Depending on the type of wood and production, the price for the herringbone is in the middle to upper segment. In the majority of cases solid wood finishes are bought.

More expensive than mosaic parquet

Within the individual groups of wood species, the rods for the herringbone parquet belong to the more expensive parquet elements. Unlike smaller-scale mosaic parquets, the demands on the purity of the wood are higher and sapwood must not be present even in the smallest proportions.

If the herringbone is made from native woody wood species, the price per square meter is on average about twenty percent higher than the price of a cube-shaped mosaic parquet made from the same wood.

Usual timbers for the herringbone parquet are maple, cherry, oak, ash and walnut, whose prices per square meter start at fifty euros. Precious woods such as wenge or mahogany must be calculated with at least eighty euros per square meter.

Cheaper two-layer products

The wood sticks for herringbone are made up of multi-layered variants from the wood-wearing layer and a carrier plate. The thickness is ten to 16 millimeters and the wear layer is three to five millimeters thick. Depending on the type of wood, the cheapest herringbone parquets are available from € 30 per square meter.

In the precious wood sector, the price differences between two-layer construction and solid wood construction are not so serious. This is also due to the usually very high-quality wear layer trees, which are made of particularly beautiful veneer woods such as oak.

Multiple patterns sometimes cheaper

If you want to buy a two- or three-fold herringbone, you can fall back on laying units already put together on nets, which often have a lower price per square meter than simple herringbone parquet.

Tips & TricksThe herringbone parquet is one of the elaborately laid parquet patterns. If large-scale wooden sticks with tongue and groove are used, the experienced private person can dare laying himself. In conventional jointed rods, a specialist should carry out the laying.
