Building a pitched roof yourself

The easiest way to build a garden shed or a shed is to use a pent roof, as it is easier to erect than a pitched roof or possibly a hipped roof. What you should pay attention to, we show here.

Do not choose a slope that is too shallow

Depending on the type of roofing you choose, the slope of the roof should be between at least three and at most about 15 degrees. If the inclination is too low, the water can run backwards during a heavy rainfall and penetrate into the roofing.

Observe the roof alignment

Storage rooms and sheds are best aligned with the roof area facing west. In Germany, this is often the weather side and the building gets more protection from the weather.

However, if you want to live in the garden house with the self-built pent roof or use it as a kind of winter garden, then the roof side should point to the north.

So you get a nice big front, which faces the sun and in the big windows let in light and air.

Do not choose a beam cross-section

If you are not familiar with it, ask a structural engineer or an architect about the exact thickness of the particular roof beam you need to use. For this purpose, both the size of the building and the selected roofing and the angle of inclination of the roof must be known.

Tips & TricksNaturally, you can also build your own house with a pitched roof yourself, but the construction should be checked by a specialist in advance.

Apart from the fact that a building application is necessary anyway, you should do no experiments in building a house. After all, the family should be able to live safely in the house for a long time.
