All well-stocked hardware stores offer the materials and tools to plaster a wall. Experienced and experienced laymen can apply the plaster in their own efforts. Many products such as ready-made plaster and particularly adhesive variants make work easier. From the professionals, some indispensable tricks and tricks can be seen.
Exterior or interior plaster
When plastering a wall, the first decisive factor is whether it is an exterior or interior wall. Outdoor plasters must partially withstand extreme weather conditions such as frost and heavy rainfall. By painting a house wall, the plaster can be reinforced, but must have a solid and substantial base.
Interior plaster differs in flush or decorative plaster. While the concealed plaster serves as an adhesion aid for wall coverings as in wallpapering, the decorative plaster fulfills design requirements. Properties such as the nature of the surface must be considered both visually and mechanically. Very rough roughing, for example, in a frequently used passage space such as a hallway or staircase when touched quickly lead to skin abrasions. Beurteilen Assessing and preparing walls
Plaster is a frugal material when applied to a suitable substrate. The goal is a solid connection as possible by entanglement in the pores of concrete, plasterboard, multi-purpose panels or stone.
Plaster coatings easily compensate for slight bumps. So a rough smoothing of the walls is enough. Only larger holes and cracks need to be filled. Grooves, butt joints and depressions to a depth of about three millimeters do not have to be machined.
How to plaster a wall
Stirring or finishing plaster
- Corner profiles
- Cleaning profiles
- Cleaning profile mortar
- Hammer and chisel
- Hand brush or brush
- Ladder or pedestal
- Spirit level
- Cleaning trowel
- Abrasive and / or stripping board
- 1 General
Smooth the wall roughly and remove all old plaster with hammer and chisel. Fill in joints, cracks and holes that are wider or deeper than five millimeters. Brush or sweep wall of all loose attachments. Use a ladder or pedestal to make sure you reach the entire wall well.
2. Secure liability
Test the suction behavior with the water test. If you spray drops of water on the wall, they must not bead off or form dark spots. If the suction does not meet the requirements, prime or brush the wall "open".
3. Prepare plaster
Since you have to proceed quickly while plastering, you organize the required quantity in advance. Providing the touch-up utensils for the second layer of plaster facilitates work. If the wall has an area of more than ten square meters, you will ideally work in pairs. Stir the plaster accurately and correctly according to the manufacturer's instructions.
4. Setting corner and plaster profiles
Place on external corners and at intervals of one to 1,50 meters vertical plaster profiles. Glue them to the wall with blobs of mortar. Pay attention to an exactly vertical alignment.
5. Watering the wall
Apply water to the wall surfaces between the plaster profiles evenly with a wet paint quench. The wall surface should become as saturated as possible in a saturated wet state. Erste 6. First layer of plaster
With sweeping momentum, use a trowel to "throw" the plaster on the wall. Start in the middle and spread out in a circle. The layer thickness should be about one centimeter. Slightly flatten after two or three square feet of "throw-up". Z 7. Second layer of plaster
Pre-wash the dried first layer of plaster like the wall. Apply the second layer of plaster "painting" with the Beiputzen. To do this, pick up the plaster with the trowel and lay it on the trowel. With a slightly inclined smoothing trowel "smear" the plaster as evenly as possible. Fill each gap between the plaster profiles individually. The plaster layer should turn about one centimeter thick. The plaster profiles must all be covered.
8. Smoothing the plaster
If you want to make a functional plaster such as a flush plastering or to create a smooth plaster, smooth the fresh plaster with a sanding board. If you moisten the board, it can be better over the plaster. Be sure to sweep scores by circular motions.
9. Texturing plaster
If you want to create a textured plaster with a pattern, use a scraping board. Pull it over the plaster in irregular semicircular movements according to the desired look. Make sure that the structure does not create height differences of more than two millimeters on the plaster. Otherwise there is a risk of producing too thin cleaning spots.
Tips & TricksA special type of plastering can be applied when renovating damp walls. A so-called sacrificial plaster serves to absorb moisture and is usually removed after fulfilling its task. You can also purchase sacrificial plaster, which can be used as a first layer of plaster.
