Building a wine rack made of pallets makes sense because of the dimensions

The multi-functionality of pallets as a source material for consumer and household items also includes a wine rack. In principle, the almost perfect distance between the two pallet levels can be created by simply stacking a wine rack. Accordingly, cut out items are also usable.

Intermediate dimensions and bottle diameter

A Euro pallet consists of two levels held together by wooden blocks. The total height is 148 centimeters and the thickness of the respective wooden slats 22 mm. Due to the transverse double layer on the upper side, this thickness must be subtracted twice. This creates a distance of 100 mm from the floor on which the pallet rests. If on the bottom one of the Aufsetzlatten runs parallel to the upper Verlattung, another 22 mm lath thickness must be subtracted in the construction height. This results in a distance of 78 mm.

This value is sufficient for the diameter of most common wine bottles with 0.75 liter filling content. Even if the winegrowers are given great freedom in the design of their products, the bottle diameter is usually less than 78 mm. For "thicker" bottles, the non-counter batten areas with the height of 100 mm can be used in the construction of a wine rack made of pallets. The largest diameter of the wine bottles in standard size is 90 mm and fits into the bottle rack.

Floor and wall shelves

These basic dimensions give pallets the property of being able to be integrated in any part form in a shelf construction. A longitudinally halved pallet needs only a bottom bar on the front side opposite the cut side. After assembly, the pallet can be fixed with the top side forward and the cut side up on a wall. Apart from the middle holding block can be set on two shelves created three to four wine bottles.

The perfect fit can also be used when splitting a pallet. The end faces can be cut lengthwise and crosswise on a slat width from the rest of the pallet. This results in rectangular and elongated hollow frames. Two frames set one behind the other form an inlay shelf that can be set up and stacked freely. A full range can be by inserting shelves to the wall shelf by being attached to the top of the wall.

Long-term storage with a bottle inclination

Wine bottle holders made of wood can also be made from pallet parts, giving the bottles a tendency towards the bottleneck. This "flushing" of the cork from the inside is especially advantageous for long-term storage. The pallet slats can receive correspondingly obliquely drilled holes. It is also possible to drill straight retaining holes and to tilt the entire pallet. Zwischen Intermediate floors drawn into the pallet or in pallet parts can be provided with holes into which wine bottles are inserted upside down. The universal design possibility expands when slots are sawn into the shelves or pallet slats. These serve as glass holders by hanging the stem glasses upside down.
