Of course, wall colors are not just different in price, although this is the most obvious feature on the shelf. They also have a wide range of different qualities, from true cheap to high quality paints. Fortunately, the true value of a wall paint can be seen even before you buy, just take a close look at the label of the container!
What are our normal wall colors?
Regular wall paints from the construction market are also called dispersion paints. They consist of finely distributed plastic particles in the solvent water and a certain percentage of pigments. The more pigments, the higher the opacity - and yes, the higher the binder, the better the adhesion.
The synthetic resins used are mostly acrylates or polyvinyl, which are initially distributed in the water, but are no longer soluble in water after drying. Sometimes, however, they dissolve again when painting over, which is not exactly a high quality feature.
Quality features of wall paints: You should pay attention to this!
An important quality factor is considered to be the opacity classes that should be noted on each paint bucket. As a rule of thumb, the higher the opacity, the less layers you'll have to cut! Here is an overview of the four classes:
|Class 1||At least 99.5%|
|Class 2||At least 98%|
|Class 3||At least 95%|
|Class 4||Less Than 95%|
Even a few percentage points can have an amazing effect For that reason, in most cases it is worthwhile to use colors of opacity class 1. This will give you the highest quality and will probably save you some work and a lot of nerves.
In addition, the wet abrasion classes are the decisive criterion when it comes to determining the quality of a wall paint. These are classified as follows:
|Wet abrasion class||Effect||Usable for ...|
|Class 1||no staining - best quality||... heavily used rooms of all kinds|
|Class 2||abrasion resistant||... hallway, children's room, kitchen.|
|Class 3||washable||... normal living spaces.|
|class 4||clear abrasion||... utility basements and sheds.|
|Class 5||high abrasion||... preferably not at all.|
Also note the yield of the wall paint!
As a precaution, also check how high the yield of the selected wall paint is. This is described in liters per square meter and shows you how much money you need to spend on a simply painted area.Tips & TricksOnly tell you what your high-quality wall color costs per square meter of space. Compare this price with other, similar quality paints, because some products can be simply overpriced.
