Pollution of concrete slabs on the terrace over time causes algae and moss to settle in the joints. In order to clean the concrete slabs, then usually a lot of effort is needed - but if you proceed as planned, you can keep the work much lower. You can find out how it works here.
Due to the weather, tiny cracks form on the surface of the concrete blocks in which moss, algae and dirt can accumulate. That makes the terrace very unsightly very quickly. In order to eliminate the pollution, there are various possibilities, but not all are equally effective.
The high-pressure cleaner
Basically, high-pressure cleaners work quite well - but you have to be careful with them. Not all concrete blocks are even suitable for the use of a high-pressure cleaner, and also with other stones, the use of the high-pressure cleaner may leave significant marks on the stones, especially at high pressure.
In addition, the high-pressure cleaner also swirls the joint sand and small stones out of joint, which then heavily pollute the rest of the garden and make it possible to refill the joints. For added detergents you should be careful because of the possibly environmentally harmful effect, and use the high-pressure cleaner only with an attachment.
Home-made recipes such as vinegar cleanser are usually not recommended, but even professional cleaners can damage some stones as well as the surrounding garden, groundwater or pets.
In addition, the manual scrubbing is already a very strenuous task with smaller terraces, and often brings little success. For quick cleaning in between, so as not to let the dirt get too big, it is perfectly suitable, especially if you use special concrete stone cleaners.
Sealing for protection
It is highly recommended to provide the concrete blocks with a suitable seal from the outset, and also to close the joints tightly. In this way, the concrete block is dirt-repellent and the cleaning much easier. The seal should be reapplied every two to three years.
