The laying of concrete slabs is no problem for every artisan DIY enthusiast. However, you have to be aware of the physically hard work that comes from the weight of the concrete. With a helper you are not only faster, but also protect your health.
Ensure weight stability and drainage
The high weight of the concrete slabs has the advantage that they will be stable and immovable, even if people move or stay on them. It must be remembered that this dead weight must be borne by the subsoil in the long term and errors in the preparation can lead to later sagging of individual or even several concrete slabs.
This risk is also threatened by possible under-flushing, if the water drainage before and during laying was not sufficiently considered. Therefore, a slope - away from the house - both during excavation and laying the concrete slabs must be generated. If you want to lay different colored concrete slabs on the surface, draw a laying plan and calculate the requirements of the individual colors. Prepare for installation by sorting the required stones in the order in which they will later be laid. Any concrete sawing work should be completed before laying. Concrete slabs can also be laid with so-called plate bearings. The round plastic plates with a top cross joint form the insert shapes for the individual concrete slabs. This creates a uniform joint strength over the entire surface. The concrete slabs lie loosely in the respective joint corners and can later be removed and replaced individually at any time. The alignment and straightening of the total area is facilitated by the height of each individual plate bearing whose height can be corrected with a rubber mallet.

6. Do not fill joints
When laying concrete slabs, leave the joints unfilled. This gives the surface the necessary clearance to compensate for temperature differences and load peaks.
Tips & TricksThe loose bed you can use gravel or gravel. They were supposed to pile up a layer of coarse gravel or gravel several centimeters thick, two to three centimeters thick. This allows more precise alignment and placement of concrete slabs. The best fixation is given when using mortar.
