Cork floors are actually quite grateful, as far as the homely duties are concerned - but there are still some things to consider when cleaning a cork floor. Read here what is important.
Cork can not handle all cleansers
Cork is a natural material - and therefore somewhat sensitive to some cleansers or cleaning methods. So you have to pay attention to a lot.
In any case, you should avoid too much water - cork is also treated very sensitive to moisture and can swell and thus carry serious damage. Mist-damp or slightly damp wiping is fine - but that's all. That scrubbing with hard brush already prohibits, should be clear.
Acid-based and strong alkaline cleaners should not be used - they can attack, damage or cause graying on the sensitive cork floor. Unfortunately, this category includes a lot of common "power cleaners" for the floor, which should even be "nourishing". For cork they are often deadly - so use something mild. Soft soap, curd soap and microfibre cloths or wipers are also strictly prohibited on the cork floor - they can attack the coatings over time, making the floor very vulnerable to damage or the ingress of later non-removable dirt particles into the cork.
Step by step, the correct cleaning of the cork floor
Cleaner for cork (mild and neither acidic nor strongly alkaline)
- Wipe care for cork (here are special products)
- ev. Oil or wax, if necessary
- broom, vacuum cleaner
- lint-free, soft cotton cloth or wipes
- 1. Sweep or vacuum cork floor
Cork is inherently antistatic - so dirt will not adhere to any such floor or penetrate as long as the pores are protected and closed. Sucking and sweeping is therefore relatively effective and, moreover, much less frequent than other floor coverings.
2. Wiping with a wiping care
In addition to a gentle cleaning agent, you can also always add the wipe care to the wiping water. Remember: very little wet, never flood the ground or leave puddles! Nach 3. Re-oiling or re-growing
Sealed cork floors need re-sealing only about every ten years - but oiled and waxed floors often need a new layer of wax or oil several times a year to protect, especially in the heavily used areas such as running roads , Remember and take your time every few months.
